The brand Naturehike is great in terms of cost performance ratio, especially when you buy it on Taobao as the price is 40% to 50% off comparing to Hong Kong camping equipment shops
Tent
For 1 person, better to buy tent for 2
For 2 person, better to buy tent for 3
As scouts usually share tents, it is suggested to buy at least 2 person tent.
Avoid plastic structure tents as they can easily be destroyed by strong wind on hill or at beach
Sleeping Bag
Every sleeping bag has a temperature range recommendation. Better to add 5 degree Celsius as the most comfortable temperature. (i.e. bags suit for "7C, 2C and -9C" is good for 12C outdoor temperature
A thick one that can be opened as a sheet is recommended as it can be used in all seasons
Sleeping Mat
For comfort, a self-inflating mattress with a sponge inside is the best option, but it will occupy a large amount of space and be heavy. Air mattresses are suitable for most campouts, especially when we need to hike to the campsite.
Head Light
Essential gear for campout, especially when the camp site is up hill or at the beach. Head light with red light is recommended as this can minimize the light hazard to the environment and disturbance to other buddies.
Chair
A portable chair is always needed for campfire and cooking on the ground when tables are not available.
You can also choose other bigger chairs that provide more comfortable sitting experience.
Backpack
Buying a suitable backpack according to scout's height is important. If the backpack is too big and the waist belt is not in position, all weights will levy on the shoulder and this is harmful to scout's spine if they need to hike a long way to the camp site. 40L to 60L is okay for most campouts.
